What have I learnt recently.

I love listening to podcasts.

In the past 24 hours I have learnt about

How the Beatles got their first record released. EMI agreed to release the record because the publishing arm wanted the publishing royalties because they rated Paul McCartney and John Lennon song writing skills more than their performing skills. The novelty record division signed them because the top management disapproved of the novelty division manager’s affair with his secretary. This was on episode 100 of “A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs”.

How the Japanese declared war on the USA without the USA realising. The declaration though intercepted was sent to the Japanese Embassy in 14 parts on the Saturday before their attack on Pearl Harbour. It was only in the 14th part they actual said war. That was intercepted after 9pm Pacific Time. This was from episode 226 of “The History of WWII Podcast”.

How Lady Anne Clifford (1590 – 1676) fought for 40 years to inherit her father’s estates. She become the High Sheriff of Westmorland. She then restored the castles and churches on her lands in the north of England. This was episode 199 of “The English Heritage Podcast”.

So that is at least 3 things I have learnt in the last 24 hours. I have learnt about Battle of Waterloo, Third Crusade, Medieval Saints, Vibrator museum and how vibrators were not initially sexual, a kidnapping in 1970’s Paris, King Sneferu of Egypt and an overview of the book of Numbers.
