What is my preferred mode of travel?

Anything on rails.

I love trains, subways and trams.

In my youth I had holidays on Eurail passes. On them I went as far as Morocco, or as far as Greece.

I recall the S-Bahn of Berlin run by the East German Government and the U-Bahn of Berlin run by the West German Government. The U-Bahn in East Berlin was 1930 stock. The doors did not shut when the train pulled out of the station. Me and my mate pushed them shut on a moving train. We were standing in the door way. If we had fallen out then we could have been shot as the Stasi (East German Secret Police) patrolled the U-Bahn. We saw armed Stasi on platforms of stations we passed through without stoping.

I have travelled on the new trams in Paris, the Metro and the RER (Regional Express Network). Also the funicular at Montmarte in Paris.

I have riden on New York subway and San Francisco BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit).

When I went to Canada, The Sky Train in Vancouver was suspended due to high winds and in Calgary CTrain was on strike. I have riden on the trams and subway of Toronto.

I have traveled by train in Kenya and South Africa.

I would love to travel from London to Hong Kong by train. The trains of Japan fascinate me.

As I commute, I see the inter city trains charge out of London I long to be on them. I look forward to taking a sleeper to Scotland and the boat to Shetlands. Then make by way back to John O’Groats.

Another trip is the sleeper down to Cornwall, then start the trip around England’s coast by bus. This would be a free trip due to my Elderly Freedom Pass that gives me free bus travel in England after 9am and before 11pm. The connecting train will cost but I can buy a pass that will give me a discount.
